Feb-March 2016 The Cross

During February and March we will be looking at what the Bible says about the cross. By the time we get to Good Friday we will have looked at a variety of passages from the Old Testament, Gospels and Epistles. In Leviticus 16 (on February 7th) we look at the Day of At-one-ment and find ways in which Jesus is the means by which we have now received reconciliation (Romans 5:11) In two passages from Mark’s Gospel (8:34-38, 10:42-45) on February 14th we will look at Jesus’ call to his disciples to take up our cross and follow him. In three passages from John’s Gospel (3:14-17, 8:28, 12:32) on February 21st we look at the way in which Jesus is lifted up on the cross. We finish the first month on the cross in our more all age service on 28th February by looking at the way in which Jesus, as the good Shepherd in John 10:11-18, lays down his life for the sheep. On Sunday 6th March we look at Dying to sin in Romans 6:1-11. We then, on Sunday 13th March look at Obedience in Philippians 2:5-11 with Drew Melton, who is visiting us with several young people from St Andrew’s Street Baptist Church. On Palm Sunday (20th March) we look at the anguish of Jesus, the suffering servant, in the Garden in Luke 22:39-43. On Maundy Thursday (24th March) we will look at the Lamb of God in Exodus 12 while eating lamb together. On Good Friday (25th March) we will listen to all the words from the cross, from Mark 15:34 Luke 23:34-46 John 19:26-30.
