June 2015: Meaningful Sound Bites

In the American TV series the West Wing, a Republican presidential candidate is asked in a presidential debate why he proposes to cut taxes. His sound bite answer is “that people know how to spend their money better than the government does”. His Democrat opponent congratulates him on such an excellent sound bite. But then challenges the Republican to give one or two equally clear sound bites explaining exactly how the taxes are going to be cut. The Republican fails to rise to the challenge and looses the election. As Christians we are in the business of communicating good news, in such a way that people will say “I understand”. We need to know what sound bites we are going to use AND how we are going to explain those sound bites. We are going to focus each Sunday in June on a different sound bite and work out how we explain how these actually work out in our lives.* God Loves You (June 7th using Romans 8:31-39)* Christ died for our sins (June 14th using 1 Corinthians 15:1-11)* Living by faith (June 21st using Romans 1:16-17)* I’ll pray for you (June 28th using Luke 11:1-11)
