Cherry Hinton Baptist Church was open once a fortnight, on alternate Thursdays, between Summer 2022 and Spring 2024 12 noon-2pm for refugees of any nationality who live in Cambridge to collect items freely, with a social space to sit and talk to others with a drink. This may restart in Autumn 2024.
Please do not turn up to collect items unless other than times in the diary above which are labelled “collection”.
Mums4Ukraine are coordinating this initiative, with thanks to grant funding from the city council. see https://mums4ukraine.com/ for other events and information.
How to Donate:
We accepted the following items:
• Toiletries and hygiene items, especially deodorants and soaps
• Cleaning items
• Stationery
• Canned / long shelf-life food e.g., pasta, rice, pulses,
• New EU/UK power plug adapters, power banks
• Sports items (exercise mats, bicycle helmets and locks)
• New/nearly new women and children’s summer clothes/tracksuit/rain gear/shoes
We have limited storage and when we have surplus items or items which are not wanted after being displayed, mainly clothing, we dispose of these by donating them to other charitable causes and recycling where reasonably possible, so that we still have space to recieve other items.
Cherry Hinton Baptist is open to receive donations at these times: Fri: 11:30am-1pm in the Church Building, Sun: 10-10:30am & 12:15-12:45pm, in the Church Building, and Wednesdays 2-4pm during term time in the Family Centre.
Churches or business that could offer to host a collection point for donations are encouraged to contact us.
