Heavenly father
give me grace to trust in you, particularly when I am under threat.
1-2 Ahaz, king of Judah, was afraid when Syria and Israel attacked Judah
3-9Yahweh told Isaiah to go and tell Ahaz to not be afraid.
10 Yahweh spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 “Ask a sign of Yahweh your God”
(so that when the sign happens you can have something to confront your fear)
12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, neither will I tempt Yahweh.”
(because he didn’t want to confront his fear with a knowledge of Yahweh’s power, because he was banking on Assyria)
13 Isaiah said, “Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also?
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young girl will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 He shall eat butter and honey when he knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16 For before the child knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good, Israel and Syria will be devastated, 17-24 by Assyria who will also destroy you (Judah)
