give us grace to turn to you when we have problems, particularly when we are trapped, when we face death and when our resources fail.

[The consequences of turning from the peaceful and righteous way of the Lord apply to all people.  
In this case this has happened to the people of Jerusalem (in the shape of desolation, destruction, famine and sword),
but it will also happen to those who have walked over and afflicted them]

give us grace to know you and your justice today and have no part in oppression.

¹Awake, awake! Put on your strength, Zion.
    Put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city:
    for from now on the uncircumcised and the unclean will no more come into you. [and oppress you]

    Arise, sit up, Jerusalem!

give us grace to to speak words of peace and of good news today

 ⁷ How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news,
    who publishes peace,
    who brings good news,
    who proclaims salvation,
    who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Heavenly Father
give us grace to abide in you today in peace

⁸ Your watchmen lift up their voice.
    Together they sing;
    for they shall see eye to eye when Yahweh returns to Zion.  [i.e. our heavenly father living in his people]
⁹ Break out into joy!
    Sing together, you waste places of Jerusalem; [parts of our lives from which we have formerly excluded our heavenly father]
    for Yahweh has comforted…

Heavenly Father
give us grace to distance ourselves from all that is unclean today. (loving the sinner while hating the sin)

¹¹ Depart! Depart! Go out from there! Touch no unclean thing!
    Go out from among her!
    Cleanse yourselves, you who carry Yahweh’s vessels.
¹² For you shall not go out in haste,
    neither shall you go by flight:
for Yahweh will go before you;
    and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

Heavenly Father
give us grace to have time today to open our eyes to see your glory in unexpected places.

¹³ Behold, my servant will deal wisely.
    He will be exalted and lifted up,
    and will be very high.
¹⁴ Just as many were astonished at you—
    his appearance was marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men—
¹⁵ so he will cleanse many nations.

give us grace today to be open to and respect our real source of power
