Heavenly father
give us grace to be obedient to your truth in love today.

²² Seeing you have purified your souls
in your obedience to the truth
through the Spirit
in sincere brotherly affection,
love one another from the heart fervently, 
²³ having been born again,
not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
through the word of God,
which lives and remains forever. 
²⁴ For, “All flesh is like grass,
    and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass...

2 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God...

give us grace today to put away all wickedness, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and evil speaking

⁷ For you who believe therefore is the honour, but for those who are disobedient,

“The stone which the builders rejected
    has become the chief cornerstone,”

⁸ and, “a stumbling stone and a rock of offence.”

For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed. 

7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,“The stone the builders rejecte has become the cornerstone,” 8 and,“A stone that causes people to stumble    and a rock that makes them fall.”They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10...

Heavenly father
give us grace for us to live in you, and for you to live in us, so that we communicate your goodness in what we do and say today 

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
a people for God’s own possession,
that you may proclaim the excellence of him
who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. 
¹⁰ In the past, you were not a people, but now are God’s people,
who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Heavenly father
give us grace today to abstain from all those things which war against our souls.. 

¹¹ Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims,
to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 
¹² having good behaviour among the nations,
so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, 
they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation.

give us grace today to serve you today, doing all things well.

whether to the king, as supreme; 
¹⁴ or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do well.
