July 2013 Corporate Disciplines

We’re two thirds of the way through the 12 spiritual disciplines. As we enter July we move from the outward looking disciplines to the corporate disciplines.

We look at Confessing together in John 20:19-23 (Thu 4July) and James 5:13-18 (Sun 7 July). We will be challenged to progress our thinking far beyond knowing that going to a priest for confession is not necessary. Honesty before God as individuals and honesty with each other are more interlinked than we may be comfortable with.

We look at being Guided together in Matthew 18:19-20 (Thu 11 July) and Acts 15:6-21 (Sun 14 July). We will be challenged that Jesus’ promise to be present when 2 or 3 come together in his name, may be more than physically being in the same place. It may be necessary for us to come together in our thinking which will take courage and humility.

We look at Celebrating together in John 15:1-11 (Sun 21 July) and Philippians 4:4-9 (Thu 25 July). We will be challenged to know that the path to joy in all its fullness is the path of obedience to the commands of God.

We look at Worshiping together in Mark 12:28-34 (Sun 28 July). We will continue to be challenged to be a community which is known by our commitment to love the lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; and love our neighbours as we love our selves.
