Isaiah 8

Heavenly father, give me grace to fear only you, so that I may fear no one else, for I know that if I trust in anyone or anything other than you, so I shall stumble and fall.

⁵ The Lord spoke to me again: ⁶ “Because the people of Judah are not satisfied with adequate resources I have given them (e.g. the rivers of their own country) and melt with fear at their militarily strong neighbours Israel and Syria ⁷ therefore the Lord is about to bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates, and all the might of Assyria. ⁸ which will sweep over Judah.

¹¹ This is what the Lord says to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people: ¹² “Do not fear what they fear ¹³ but rather fear the Lord Almighty

¹⁴ For He will be a holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.

¹⁷ I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from his people.  I will put my trust in him.
